How to Share Wi-Fi With a QR Code (iPhone and Android)
Share your Wi-Fi password with a QR code: create the code, print it, and let guests join by scanning. Works on iPhone and Android, with safety tips.
What a Wi-Fi QR code does
A Wi-Fi QR code stores your network name (SSID), password and security type in a standard format. When a guest scans it with their phone camera, the phone offers to join the network without typing anything.
It is ideal for homes, rental properties, cafes, waiting rooms and offices.
How to make one
Use these steps:
- Open the Wi-Fi QR code generator and choose Wi-Fi.
- Type your network name exactly as it appears, including capital letters and symbols.
- Enter the password and choose the security type. WPA or WPA2 is the usual choice for home routers.
- If your network is hidden, turn on the hidden network option.
- Download the code and print it, or display it on a stand or frame.
How guests scan it
On current iPhones (iOS 11 or newer) and Android phones (Android 10 or newer), guests open the camera app, point it at the code and tap the join prompt. Older Android versions may need a QR scanner app.
Safety tips
Anyone who can see the QR code can join the network, because the password is stored inside it. For public or semi-public places, create a separate guest network on your router and use that password for the QR code, so your main devices stay private.
If you change your Wi-Fi password, the old printed code stops working and you must make and print a new one. QR Vibe creates the code in your browser, so your password is not uploaded to a server.
